Akshardham Temple Gandhinagar

The Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar is a pure example of great craftsmanship. It is the most revered and the largest temple in Gujarat. The temple was constructed in 1992 and is dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan. The foundation for the temple was laid by the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha. The highlight of this temple lies in the idol of great Lord Swaminarayan that stands nearly seven feet tall. Carved in a unique way the idol looks like really watching at you.

The gardens in Akshardham temple are of two types namely Bharat Upvan and Yogihriday Kamal. The gardens cover an area of sixty acres with lush lawns surrounding it.

Sahajanad Van

Sahajanad Van is the name of a beautiful garden in the Akshardham temple premises. The garden looks colorfully refreshing with a variety of lovely flowers and trees in the backdrop. The lake and the waterfall in this place are the tourist attractive places.

Bharat Upvan

Bharat Upvan is a botanical garden in Akshardham that has manicured lawns, bronze statues and lush gardens that attract any tourists in large numbers. The bronze statues of valorous warriors, national figures, child gems, freedom fighters and the great women personalities attribute this garden.

Yogihriday Kamal

There is a special lotus in this garden. It has got many auspicious sentiments in and around it. This garden holds the quotes said by various people from all over the world. People who are said to relax in this garden can get inspired with such valuable thoughts and use them in their real life.

Activities in Akshardham Temple Gandhinagar

Apart from regular Poojas that are performed in the temple, various festivals are also celebrated here. During Navaratri days the temple looks divine as it is decorated in flowers and lights.

The temple has also has a modern Akshardham Center for Applied Research in Social Harmony (AARSH). It is an ideal place for philosophers, researchers and devotees who seek peace and knowledge.

These exhibitions portray the life of the Lord, His life history that gives good messages for a being a better soul. You can watch the 3D dioramas and be a part of various presentations using fibre optics, robotics, sound and light effects, music and dialogues. These presentations take the audience to the 18th century when Lord Swaminarayan is said to have existed. The statues get life with the animatronic technology.

If you are travelling through road to reach Akshardham temple, then take the NH 8C. It starts from Ahmedabad and ends in Gandhinagar. Make sure to cross the Chamanbhai Patel Bridge and Ashram road to reach the temple. The Akshardham metro station is the closest railway station to the temple. Trains are available all day.
